Η πρώτη απόσταξη

1940-1970

The family creates a small traditional distillery, as already with the collection of the lees, they also undertake the collection of the stems (tsipouro). The stems are deposited in large linens (large capacity pits covered with a certain type of fabric), in which the alcoholic fermentation is completed. After a period of about 30 days and after the distillation process, souma is produced, a colorless and highly alcoholic drink (50% vol, similar to tsipouro), which is transported in touloumia (goat skin boxes).

Το Αγιωργίτικο

1970-1999

The family focuses on increasing the land it owns of private owned vineyards and cultivating Agiorgitiko variety, as at the same time it creates a small wine press and engages in wine production.

The Barafakas Winery is founded by Christos Barafakas, 3rd generation of winemakers, who transforms the traditional wine press into a modern winery. In 2004, the first bottling of Agiorgitiko wine takes place, in a limited number of bottles. The harvest comes from the 100 acres of the privet own vineyards.

Ανάπτυξη

2007-2013

The Winery cooperates with a distribution network. This move begins to bring about a small but steady increase in annual bottle production. The first concern is the annual acre increase with the purchase of new vineyards.

Διανομή σε Ελλάδα και Κύπρο

2014-2023

The Winery enters into a new partnership with one of the largest distribution networks, W.S. KAROULIAS company, with exclusive distribution in Greece and Cyprus. Barafakas family invests mainly in mechanical equipment, building facilities and the increase of privately owned vineyards at 180 acres. In these lands, apart from Agiorgitiko, other Greek and international varieties are cultivated, such as Malagousia, Kydonitsa, Malvazia, Assyrtiko, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer and Cabernet Sauvignon.

20+ χρόνια λειτουργίας

Today

More than twenty years of operation, the winery has managed to grow and evolve, gaining more wine friends year by year. A total of 12 wine labels and around 300.000 bottles are produced annually, most of which is sold domestically and the rest distributed abroad in Cyprus, Germany, Belgium, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan and China.

Future plans

In the near future, Barafakas Winery will move to the next phase of its evolutionary path, as it will be transferred to new facilities surrounded by vineyards, with a total area of 70 acres. The goal, beyond the production of quality wines, is the development of wine tourism from a different perspective.
